To help you keep track of your goals and progress, your PDP logs all of your goals together with all of the tasks that you need to complete in order to fulfil your goals.
- Set a Goal
- Break it down into individual tasks
- Complete those tasks to complete the Goal
For example, you may have a PDP Goal called 'Improve my communication skills'. In order to complete this goal you may identify several tasks, such as:
- Complete 1 hour of online CPD on the topic of 'Communication Skills'
- Attend a seminar on 'Complaints Handling'
- Schedule a 30 minute meeting with Practice Manager to solicit feedback
In this case, whenever you do any online CPD with the topic 'Communication Skills', this will automatically contribute to the progression of your PDP Goal. Similarly, when you log your attendance at a 'Complaints Handling' seminar, your goal will automatically move towards completion. Since the meeting with the Practice manager is not CPD-related, you can mark this as complete manually once done and your PDP Goal will be marked as complete.
At the end of the year (or cycle) or at any time you need to present your records, your goal will be displayed with all of its tasks, and its related CPD, in an easy to read document which you can print out or share via email or messaging.
Your digital assistant will track everything and link your CPD Log to your PDP Goals and Tasks. If you are ever audited by the GDC or required by any other authority to demonstrate how you implemented your professional development plan (for example, for an appraisal), it just takes a couple of clicks to provide full documentary evidence of everything.
Adding a PDP Task
There are two ways to add task to a PDP Goal - you can click the 'Add a PDP Task' button in the Goal itself or just click the + button on the top of the screen.
Choose the goal the task refers to, add any relevant CPD Topics, the amount of time you want to dedicate to it and, optionally, a due date.
You don't have to add PDP Tasks if you don't want to, but it's a useful way to manage a goal that has many aspects to it.
